This is the view of the podium in the room where I gave my talk. (A view of the room to the left of this picture is in the next shot; my stitching software had fits over this mosaic.) The room seated a few hundred, and was mostly full when I gave my talk (probably around 120 or so people). I came in now, the morning of my presentation (Friday) just to absorb the karma of the room and help sooth my anxieties. The screen is off to my right and a little behind me. Not easy to reach to point at, but well within laser pointing range. The stage lighting is arranged to illuminate a figure at the podium, but no where else.
